Earning my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering gave me with a broad understanding of technical skills as well as the ability to research complex problems and come up with creative solutions. Through my work as a manufacturing engineer and analyst I have developed the ability to communicate technical information to those with a wide range of experience. I have demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including working in close coordination with a small team, as well presenting technical recommendations to program managers and other decision makers. Both my work and educational experiences have given me solid research skills, including reaching out to and learning from relevant experts.

18 Question applies to multiple boards
What are your goals in serving on the board, commission, or committee to which you are applying?
My main goal is to ensure that the land use decisions made in Goleta contribute to meeting the goals of the General Plan. This includes making sure that discretionary decisions preserve what's important to Goletans, including Goleta's beautiful surrounding environment, Goleta history, and community resources.
A particularly important goal to me is that development decisions in Goleta contribute towards the sustainability of our city, always seeking to minimize ecological impact. Or, as it is compellingly put in the General Plan, I want to ensure that Goleta is a community "that seeks sustainability by not sacrificing tomorrow’s resources for today’s needs". Finally, I want to help ensure that Goleta is adequately contributing to share of the housing needed all across California.
Question applies to multiple boards
What civic and/or volunteer activities have you participated in? You may include past or present activities.
LEAD Goleta: I graduated from the inaugural LEAD community academy provided by the City of Goleta.
Through this program, I attended lectures and contributed to discussions about all the functions and departments of the City of Goleta. Coalition for Sustainable Transportation (COAST): I am a member of COAST, which advocates for environmentally sustainable transportation in Santa Barbara County. My activities include being part of the Advocacy Committee, which focuses on coordinating citizen led efforts to bring positive changes related to city development, transportation, and public safety. I also regularly attend public meetings which include presentations by academic experts, city officials, and activists. City Council Meetings: I have regularly attended or watched City Council meetings in order to stay current with what's changing in the city, and have often commented publicly about planning and zoning related issues.
Question applies to multiple boards
Have you obtained any memberships in professional organizations? No
Question applies to Planning Commission
What do you believe to be the role of the Planning Commission.
I believe the role of the planning commission is to serve as decision makers and citizen representatives for issues related to land use and development. The planning commission is an important link in making sure decisions made by other review authorities both represent the wishes of Goleta residents as well as help further the goals set out in the General Plan. I also believe that the Planning Commission should play a proactive role in improving the guiding principles and laws that govern development in the city by exercising it's ability to recommend changes for the Council to consider.

Question applies to Design Review Board
Describe your design philosophy for buildings, landscaping, signage and lighting. For Architects and Landscape Professional, in your schooling, which architect or landscape architect influenced you the most and why?
Goleta's special quality stems from its unique historic heritage and its extraordinary setting between mountains and sea, so its buildings and site design must project the character of the region. The city's built environment should not mimic a development aesthetic of facile sameness that characterizes much of southern California sprawl. Many California architects and landscape architects recognize and embrace the "sense of place" that make this region unique, but Halprin and Church are especially influential.
Question applies to Design Review Board
What are the reasons why you believe you should be appointed to the Design Review Board?
Board currently has no landscape architect. I have 30 years experience as a landscape architect at local office. I live adjacent to City of Goleta.

Question applies to multiple boards
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? Being new to the Area I think I can bring an outsiders perspective. I also have had very interesting well traveled history til this point. It has been on my radar to get more involved more with politics and making an impact on my community. My children are 7 and 3 and we moved here planning to make this our home for their journey through school.

Describe your qualifications, experience, and education, and list any technical or professional requirements you have relative to the duties of the board, commission or committee to which you are applying.
I have a rather unique background and can most likely offer some unique insight and prospective. I was born and raised in the Hudson Valley, NY. Attended the Culinary Institute of America. Moved to CA (Napa Valley) in '97. I have worked in and run Michelin Starred restaurants, started the first "new school" food truck in the Bay Area in 2009. I was also a very avid skateboarder til about 30, I still roll around but I'm not what I was.... I traveled all over the country and beyond building concrete skateparks for a few years in my late 20's. I opened and sold at a profit 2 restaurants and a food truck. I exited the kitchen at the age of 40 in 2016 and have been building my current business I just moved here from Hawaii doing custom designed outdoor kitchens and concrete and reclaimed wood furnishings. I have found my success has come from my ability to adjust, adapt and learn to find the solutions in challenging solutions.

What are your goals in serving on the board, commission, or committee to which you are applying?
I'm not sure what others things may pop up in the future. At this point being new to town I know a few issues I'd love to help find solutions to are the homeless issues and all that may come with that and the lack of small business work space. There seems to be a ton of office space but smaller retail, warehouse and Industial space is very very limites for start-up or smaller operations at a reasonable or competitive rate comparable to many other metro areas
Question applies to multiple boards
What civic and/or volunteer activities have you participated in? You may include past or present activities.
I am an active and proud Freemason and believe in doing what I can to help my fellow humans going through this journey of life. I was very active with the Roots advocancy for youth, building the roots Skatepark in Kapa'au Hawaii for nearly 2 years. I have help on aesser scale on numberous other volunteer skateparks. I would like to get involved with homeless solutions in the near future.
