A letter of concern regarding the current street sweeping company.

Old Town is not being swept on the bimonthly schedule that we have been told would happen. Armitos Avenue has not had a sweep since the beginning of 2022.

In the past when the sweeper runs:

1. No idea as to what hours the sweeper comes. 8-5 does not cut it when we have residents parked on the street before going to work and when they come home after work. Make one side 3 hours no parking and the opposing side 3 hours no parking on day of sweep. After the sweeper runs parking can resume on that side of the street.

2. Water is not used to sweep, dry brushing causes nothing but dirt, dust, and rocks to fly everywhere, why have a service without non-potable water?

3. Hoper on sweeper is rarely emptied and previous street sweep debris is left on the current street being swept.

Being an early morning walker, I have seen the sweeper run down the middle of the street at 6:30 am and seen the same sweeper on other days at 5:30 pm doing the same thing. This is done when there is no access to the curb area of the roads. 9-3 in the residential areas of Old Town is when there are the least parked cars on the street.

Hollister Avenue is a mess of muck and grime in the curb area that also smells of stale water or human excrement. Why is this corridor not being swept?

Get a new company to do the job properly or do not have the service. I sweep my own frontage weekly.

Respectfully submitted,
Bonnie Moore

City of Goleta,
I would like to know why you have such a large budget for street sweeping. First of all Hollister can't be done day or night as people park to shop during the day and the street is full of cars at night from people in the surrounding neighborhoods. Second you did the sidewalk project and that only put curbing on one side of some streets. You don't make a schedule so cars are not moved for proper sweeping. On the opposite side of the street sweeping can't be done as there are no curbs so they just sweep the lane which is a waste of time and tax payers money. Before you approve this item someone needs to spend time in the field day and night to do research and come up with a plan that works.

I'd like to make a comment about street sweeping in Old Town...

We are all for street sweeping, but...

The City of Goleta originally said sweep days would be on certain Tuesdays and cars must be moved, or towed. If you're not going to insist on moving cars on sweep days, please don't bother spending our tax dollars on this service. It really is a waste of time and money.

Thanks for listening.
