Re: Public Comments: Agenda Item C.1, June 21, 2022 - 290/295 Ellwood Canyon Road and Bishop Ranch
Dear Mayor Perotte and Council Members:

I am writing to express my strong support for the proposed City Council resolution that would add the historic structures at 290/295 Ellwood Canyon Road to the City's Historic Resources Inventory and clarify the Goleta Landmark-eligible historic features of the Bishop Ranch property. Both of these properties include valued historic structures that represent significant and highly visible symbols of Goleta's history. The importance of these time capsules of history to the citizens of Goleta cannot be understated. Such resources inspire pride and a sense of belonging to members of the public and are essential elements in creating a sense of community and identity for the Goleta populace.

As I have said before in addressing the City Council, I am a long-time activist on behalf of historic preservation in Goleta and continue to serve on the Santa Barbara County Historic Landmarks Advisory Commission. I was an enthusiastic supporter of the recently-approved Goleta preservation ordinance and I appreciate the City Council's continued actions to designate and protect the City's historic resources.

Sincerely,
Ronald L. Nye
