Question applies to multiple boards
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I identified the eucalyptus trees' health issues in our Grove and created the spark to pursue professional attention for the problem. I am interested in the problems presented in our area, an area that has many small parks that are not apparent to the community. I would like to see our trees cared for and continue to be a high point of our community.
Question applies to multiple boards
Describe your qualifications, experience, and education, and list any technical or professional requirements you have relative to the duties of the board, commission or committee to which you are applying.
I have had an interest in horticulture since childhood and have pursued it as a hobby but mostly as an observer, I do not have large yard, other than the eucalyptus grove I share with my neighbors. My skill as an editor might be useful when discussing signage or publicity for parks. I have experience working with Goleta Valley Historical Society (GVHS). I believe outdoor spaces are essential to a strong and healthy community. Unfortunately I do not have much experience serving on a City Public advisory role, and have much to learn.

Question applies to multiple boards
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? Everyone who knows me is well aware that I love the city of Goleta. I live in the Goodland and believe it is the best place to live! My life has been dedicated to encouraging activity, social interaction and involvement for all members of our community through recreation and sports. I have experience promoting and creating programs and events at all different levels (city, community, non-profit, schools...) and desire to create a more inclusive community. I am excited for the opportunity to join this board.

36 Question applies to multiple boards
Describe your qualifications, experience, and education, and list any technical or professional requirements you have relative to the duties of the board, commission or committee to which you are applying.
I believe I have the qualifications, experience and education to become a valuable team member for the Parks and Recreation Commission. I am currently the Regional Manager for Special Olympics overseeing all programs and activities in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. In this role I am responsible for creating, leading and hosting many community, sports and recreation programs for people with and without intellectual disabilities. We promote inclusive programs that lead to social interaction, friendships, teamwork and develop confidence. I have worked with many cities throughout Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. Additionally, I plan programs for the schools and people of all ages. I started the Soccer School Games at Girsh Park where we bring over 300 students from elementary through high school to compete in unified soccer competition. For many of these students this is their only opportunity to represent their schools in any way. We offer programs and events at many facilities and community partners in Goleta and I have experience working with many of the local businesses (Deckers, Raytheon, LogMeIn, Montecito Bank & Trust...). Prior to joining Special Olympics, I worked for the City of Santa Barbara in the Parks and Recreation Department as the Sports Coordinator and oversaw all youth after school activities and adult sports programs. I received my MBA in Sport Management from the University of the Pacific where I was also the Event and Facility Manager for the Pacific Athletics Department. I graduated from Dos Pueblos High School and live in the city of Goleta. I also worked at Dos Pueblos for 5 years where I coached soccer and tennis.
Question applies to multiple boards
What are your goals in serving on the board, commission, or committee to which you are applying?
To do my part to make Goleta the best it can be. I am very active and know the benefits to the individual and to the community through recreation, activity and being able to spend time in our beautiful parks. I want to help ensure that the community of Goleta is provided with the best parks and recreation available.
I want to give back to my city and make sure that Goleta offers the best recreation and opportunities for current and future generations.
Question applies to Parks and Recreation Commission
List your relevant experience as it relates to your experience in parks and recreation activities.
I worked for the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department. In my role I was responsible for the youth after-school programs and the adult sport programs. I hired the staff for the events, scheduled the facilities and managed all the events. My current role at Special Olympics is similar in that I am responsible for creating and developing events and activities for all participants. I have to determine the needs of my community and then strive to meet those needs. I currently offer 10 sports programs in the Santa Barbara/Goleta area (soccer, softball, tennis, golf, bowling, floorball, athletics, aquatics, bocce and basketball). I was a high school coach at Dos Pueblos, and coached soccer and tennis. Ryan Harrington (Girsh Park) and the city of Santa Barbara both have sought out my input when considering the future of their park facilities.
