Dear Goleta City Council Members,
My name is Merissa Coello and last month I spoke at the Goleta City Council about my concerns about the use of diesel-powered lights on Girsh Park's soccer fields. I requested that The Foundation for Girsh Park get an estimate on the costs required to upgrade the soccer field lights and share that information with myself and the public such that I can help conduct a fundraiser. I asked you, the Goleta City Council members, to endorse this message and require Girsh park to electrify its soccer field lights for the health and safety of the neighborhood.
After my public comment in January, I received contact from the Foundation for Girsh Park, where I found out they have been trying to upgrade the soccer field lights for some time. Girsh Park is currently conducting a tundraising campaign to tund permanent field lights tor Girsh Hochman Field and has raised a significant portion of their goal. Now, all the foundation needs is a permit to make the upgrades that will eliminate the dirty and inefficient diesel powered construction lights that are currently used for evening soccer.
I now ask the Goleta City Council members to endorse the soccer field lights upgrade and approve the parks request for a permit for this upgrade. Thank you.
