Subject: Proposed allocation of Measure B funds for San Jose Creek Fish Passage Project Dear Mayor PeroƩe and Councilmembers,
Measure B funding should fund voluntary creek and watershed projects, not projects which are required.
The San Jose Creek Fish Passage Project is a required project which the City was planning to implement and was required to implement long before Measure B was passed. It is a requirement of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife permit for the Hollister Bridge replacement.
When voƟng for Measure B, the voters did not think they were increasing the sales tax just so the City could implement required creek projects to comply with permits, but instead intended to fund voluntary, proacƟve creek and watershed management projects.
The Watershed Alliance groups which support allocaƟng Measure B funds for creeks and watersheds did not intend Measure B funds to be directed to projects required by other agencies’ permits.
Please allocate Measure B funds for voluntary, proacƟve creek and watershed management projects and please do not spend the Measure B funds on creek projects which were already required of the City.
