RE: Short-Term Vacation Rentals Ordinance Amendments and Voluntary Collections Agreement with Airbnb Dear Mayor Perotte and Councilmembers,
The Santa Barbara Association of REALTORS® (SBAOR) represents roughly 1,300 REALTORS® throughout the South Coast and our mission includes engaging in real estate related community issues affecting our members and/or their clients who are homeowners, landlords, tenants, and commercial owners. We thank you for this opportunity to comment on the Short-Term Vacation Rentals (STR) Ordinance Amendments and Voluntary Collections Agreement with Airbnb.
SBAOR supports the suggested amendments to the STR ordinance especially since “consolidating approvals into one license with one fee will make it simpler and less costly for applicants (which will facilitate compliance with the ordinance) and will be more efficient for staff to administer”. We have fully supported this program since its inception and as indicated in the staff report, assisted with community-wide education.
Upon the approval of the staff proposed amendments, we request that should a Phase 2 be pursued, the City needs to allow ample time (at least 18 months) to study and determine if the amendments made any impacts on compliance and if any additional changes might impact homeowners.
Should you have any questions regarding our comments, please contact Krista Pleiser, Government Affairs Director, at [email protected] or (805) 884-8609. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Todd Shea
2023 President
