Subj: Opposition to Agenda Item C.1 23-279 Public H earing to Establish the Tax Rate for the Goleta Library Special Tax for Fiscal Year 2023 - 2024
Dear Madam Mayor and Council Members:
Per the Staff Report under the heading Alternatives, “The City is required by the terms of Measure L to conduct a public hearing and required noticing annually on the Library Special Parcel Tax and to adopt the rates on which the tax assessments are based; therefore, no viable alternatives exist;” and Page 2 of the Staff Report states, “The CPI increase for 2022 was 7.4%, therefore the Single-Family tax rate must increase accordingly by that amount.”
Based on a CPI of 7.4 %, this equates to a $1.97 increase per single family resident for FY 23/24 and a total net increase of $11,335.38. As such, please Deny the proposed tax rate increase for single family residents and/or secure this additional funding increase for single family residents through library donations, fund raising, grant type programs, and other funding sources in an attempt to reduce the financial hardship that most single family residents continue to endure as a result of inflation and multiple City services significantly increasing their rates which include Goleta Water District service (now $30/month for meter connection and over $7 per HCF), sewer rate increase, trash collection increase, etc.,
