CPMS CONSENT CALENDAR
Meeting Date: December 5, 2023
____________________________________________________________ TO: Mayor and Councilmembers
FROM: Kristine Schmidt, Assistant City Manager
Deborah S. Lopez, City Clerk
SUBJECT: Creation of Human Services Committee
RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt Resolution No. 23-__, entitled “A Resolution Of The City Council Of The City Of Goleta, California, Establishing A Human Services Standing Committee And Dissolving The Grants Review Standing Committee Previously Established Via Resolution 14-21.” BACKGROUND:

At its meetings on August 15, 2023 , and No vember 7, 2023, Council discussed the creation of a new Human Services Standing Committee. Council provided guidance to staff on the establishment of the Committee including the name, scope, and resolution of potential cross-over with the advisory scope of other established committees, boards, and commissions. As part of this discussion, guidance was given to dissolve the existing Grants Review Standing Committee, since grants review responsibilities would now be decentralized and allocated between the new Human Services Committee, the Homelessness Issues Committee, the Economic Development Committee, and the Parks and Recreation Commission.

DISCUSSION:

The attached Re solution will re establish the Human Services Standing Committee (Human Services Committee) and dissolve the Grants Review Standing Committee, as previously discussed with the City Council.

As part of its regular annual process, t he City Clerk will be circ ulating all of the current committee assignments to Council for discussion and possible adjustments at the next City Council meeting on December 19, 2023 . As part of that process, Councilmembers will be offered the opportunity to express interest in the new Human Services Committee and Council will be asked to make appointments to the Committee. 1 Meeting Date: December 5, 2023
