SUBJECT: Mayoral Appointment to the Standing Naming Committee RECOMMENDATION:
Ratify the mayoral appointments of Jeff Campbell and John Birchim to the Standing Naming Committee.
BACKGROUND:
The Standing Naming Committee is authorized by Goleta Resolution No. 10 -43 (Attached). This Committee consists of two members of the City Council and two City residents to be appointed annually by the Mayor and ratified by the City Council.
The Standing Naming Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council and is supported by the Public Works Department. The Committee consider s and evaluates requests and makes appropriate recommendations to the City Council for the naming or re-naming of City parks, park facilities, open spaces , and City buildings . The current Councilmembers on this committee are Councilmembers Kasdin and Kyriaco.
DISCUSSION:
This agenda item allows the City Council the opportunity to ratify the Mayor’s appointments to the Standing Naming Committee.
Government Code Section 40605 provides that an elected mayor shall make all appointments to a City’s boards, commissions , and committees, subject to the City Council’s approval.
The Mayor has appointed Jeff Campbell and John Birchim to the Standing Naming Committee and now seeks the Council’s ratification of the appointments for terms ending December 31, 2024.

FISCAL IMPACTS:
There is no direct fiscal impact associated with ratifying the Mayor’s appointees to the Standing Naming Committee other than the staff time needed to prepare this report.
