Presentation o f Santa Barba ra County Green Business Program Certification for Goleta City Hall
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive a presentation of certification from the Santa Barbara County Green Business Program.
BACKGROUND:
The Santa Barbara County Green Business Program is recognizing Goleta City Hall as a certified “Green Business” at the Innovator level for the City’s continued commitment to sustainable practices . Since 2 015, the City has partnered with the Green Business Program by sharing program resources with businesses in the community and has committed to implementing best practices at City facilities . The assessment focuses on the following solution areas: energy, solid waste, wastewater, pollution prevention, transportation, community, and water conservation. Some of the major accomplishments that helped Goleta achieve this recognition include launching the Plastic Free Goleta initiative to reduce single -use plastics, best practices for energy efficiency in facilities, having an active employee transportation demand program and implementing the Creek and Watershed Management Plan. The Santa Barbara County Green Business Program is a part of the California Green Busi ness Network, which encourages businesses and organizations across California to credibly track progress toward overall sustainability objectives.

o Encourage energy conservation through enhanced insulation, LED replacement lighting and similar measures, including at City-owned facilities Advance City water conservation efforts and practices o Utilize native, drought-tolerant landscaping on City-owned facilities

There is no fiscal impact associated with this item.
ALTERNATIVES:
The purpose of this report is to give the certification to the City Council. There are no alternatives presented.
