Question applies to multiple boards
Describe your qualifications, experience, and education, and list any technical or professional requirements you have relative to the duties of the board, commission or committee to which you are applying.

During my 37 tenure in public education I facilitated or served on a variety of K-12 public school system, countywide or statewide working groups in Los Angeles County, Santa Barbara County, California, and North Carolina. These working groups, advocacy groups, and committees adhered to statutory regulations while facilitating collaborative conversations on a variety of local, regional, and state issues as they pertain to federal or state support of high quality K-12 whole child teaching and learning. Many of these committees included a focus on public and school safety. My subject matter expertise includes injury / violence prevention, wellness, and health education. My work involved collaborations with university, business, law enforcement, education, public service, public health, and community partners. This work led to appointments to various county and state committees or commissions including the Los Angeles County Commission for Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. This experience included SWOT analyses and identification of SMART goals with outcomes. I feel confident I am able to support the goal of facilitating purposeful discussions on identifying strategies to mitigate noise especially since I live on the flight path and have anecdotal data that reflects community-member noise concerns.

Question applies to multiple boards
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I live at the Bluffs in Goleta. Following the Thomas fire and debris flow our house in Montecito was completely destroyed so we moved to the Bluffs. It is lovely and I really enjoy living in Goleta. We as well as thousands of other residents are in the fight path of the East West runway. I have acclimated in part to the NOISE. However with plans of further growth at the airport somebody has got to represent the thousands of residents in the area and even with FAA rules, flight captains deciding which approach is safe there has got be some common ground.

Question applies to multiple boards
Describe your qualifications, experience, and education, and list any technical or professional requirements you have relative to the duties of the board, commission or committee to which you are applying.

I am a retired MD lived in SB since 1973 and 28 of those years in Montecito now the last 5 in Goleta. I was the Medical Director at Sansum Clinic prior to their merger with the SB Clinic. I also have a hearing loss and use hearing aids so iI have a keen interest in sound and noise and the consequences. The effect is not only on hearing but its social disruptive effect on a sense of well being in addition to sleep disruption. It is for these reasons I feel qualified, interested, and desire through appropriate channels to make a difference.

Question applies to multiple boards
Have you obtained any memberships in professional organizations? Following retirement I did not renew multiple organizations which I was a member.

I volunteered as a physician for the SB Neighborhood clinics working in each of their clinics for 5 years. I have an interest in plants and grow orchids so with that background I volunteered at Lotusland as a docent for 5 years.

Question applies to multiple boards
Why are you interested in serving on a board, commission or committee? I live directly under the flight path on the east side of the airport and I am personally impacted by aircraft noise. I would like to join the working group so that I can learn about the problem and then help identify possible solutions that take all stakeholders into account.

Question applies to multiple boards
Describe your qualifications, experience, and education, and list any technical or professional requirements you have relative to the duties of the board, commission or committee to which you are applying.

I am a problem solver who values solutions that take input from stakeholders into account and result in compromise. I have a masters degree in Sustainable Environmental Resource Management from James Madison University. This educational background is highly relevant to the airport noise pollution issues because, like all environmental resource management issues, the problem is multifaceted with trade offs between economic, environmental, social, and other factors.

Question applies to multiple boards
Have you obtained any memberships in professional organizations? I was the founder, President, and member of a Toastmasters club for over 5 years.

Question applies to multiple boards
What civic and/or volunteer activities have you participated in? You may include past or present activities.

I am unofficially involved in my wife’s (Anna Trugman) research lab at UCSB where she studies forest ecology and Earth-climate modeling. I regularly assist her and her colleagues in field and lab work.

My strongest qualities are ability to communicate well, especially in difficult situations. My background is a Nurse Practitioner in Palliative Care which involves having difficult conversations with people everyday. I was also part of a team that won the "James Erdmann Award for Excellence in Interprofessional Collaboration" at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. It is so important to listen to people and determine what is most important to them so priorities and goals can be agreed upon. Airport noise is an extremely volatile topic, so my communication skills will be very valuable to this board.
