Please opt for alternative #3 as the safest for cyclists and other wheeled alternative transport.

As a cyclist who uses Cathedral Oaks regularly it would be a great improvement to have bike lanes separated from traffic by a barrier. Cars go so fast and so close that it is seriously scary at times. The slowing of speed limits would improve overall safety as well. Personally, I'd prefer option 3 as it provides good parking and a strong buffer for the bike lane, but option 2 would also help a lot. Option 1 is not an option-it barely addresses the problem and should not be considered.

Thank you for taking this cyclist's opinion into consideration during your deliberations.

Dear Mayor and Council members. I bike this road maybe once a month, and applaud your plan to improve it.

My preference is Alternative 2.

While both Alternative 2 and 3 protect the bikers, Alternative 2 provides a larger center median, which - if well planted with large growing trees, will help regulate the Climate, offer shade, and improve the roads look.

Thanks, Rich Untermann

Please choose one of the plans that includes a separated bike lane for the Cathedral Oaks reconfiguration. There really should be a separated lane for the entire length of Cathedral Oaks. People drive too fast and don't pay attention.

Hello Mayor Perotte and City Council,
I'm writing to you today because I hope you'll select an option for Cathedral Oaks that includes protected bike lanes. I hope you'll consider either option 2 or 3 as presented by staff.

Either option physically separates bike traffic from vehicles, which will make for a safer and more comfortable experience. High speed vehicles and bikes shouldn't mix, and this would be a step in the right direction for Cathedral Oaks.

In addition to the practical benefits, this would also put this segment more in line with the cities BPMP as well as recently adopted Vision Zero principles.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best Regards,
Jason Chapman

I cannot attend your City Council meeting but I would love to see bicycles protected from the cars by either a parallel or angled lane of parked cars between the bike lane and the traffic lanes. I have two children and don’t allow them to bike on Cathedral Oaks because of the number of deaths we’ve had in the past 10 ish years. When my oldest starts high school, Cathedral Oaks is the only non-freeway path to get from our house to his school and he will have to bike on the sidewalk (which isn’t great for pedestrians).

Hello! I was sorry I wasn’t able to attend the meeting this evening. Please do everything you can to create safer bikeways in Goleta. We have such a beautiful community and the one thing that could truly make it outstanding is to make it more bike-friendly. Cathedral Oaks is a thoroughfare for so many Goletians of all ages - from kids going to elementary school, to Goleta Valley Jr High, DP, and even UCSB, as well as recreationalists and people commuting on bike to work. But drivers go too fast on that road and with no physical barrier between cars and the bike lane, I don’t feel comfortable riding there myself, let alone allowing my kids to ride to school. With either Alternative 2 or 3, that would change. Simply having a barrier there and a separation of bikes from traffic with parked cars would be a huge improvement.

I’d like this to happen for a much longer segment of Cathedral Oaks, similar to how Modoc or Las Positas has been redone, but I’ll take whatever portion we can get, and as soon as possible! Thanks for all you do.

Sincerely,
Hillary Conant

Greetings.

I'm writing to express my opinion that of the three options for the Cathedral Oaks reconfiguration project, I feel that option 3 is the best, with separated bike lanes and angled parking. Option 2 is the next best option.

Having no physical separation, just a painted buffer, puts cyclists in between parked cars, and the car door opening risk, and moving vehicles with the risk of distracted drivers.

With option 3, having separated bike lanes and angled parking, it is safer for all involved, and addresses the lack of parking issue.

Thank you for your consideration,

Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I recently learned of the Cathedral Oaks restriping project through a Noozhawk article about the last city council meeting. I commend your commitment to improve cycling access and safety throughout Goleta, between this restriping project and the Old Town restriping project.

I cycle on Cathedral Oaks about once a month. Each time, I wonder why I am exposed to the fast traffic, while the parked cars safely hug the curb with a bike-lane buffer. Thus, I encourage the Council to adopt Option 2 or 3, where parked cars can provide a physical barrier that protects cyclists. I prefer Option 2, because of concerns of high-speed conflicts with cars exiting the angled parking, but I also greatly support Option 3 over Option 1.

Thank you for your consideration,
Parker Carlson
