Dear Council, While some of you may not be familiar with this experience, as a first- generation Mexican-American, I can’t tell you how many multicultural and immigrant children grew up having to serve as translator for their parents -and if you don’t believe me make sure you ask your kids to show you a tik tok haha. The city's new Spanish interpretation services will have a significant impact on first-generation and immigrant children like me that will help foster a sense of belonging and inclusion in community decision-making. Your efforts to empower our community are deeply appreciated, as they send a clear message that we are valued and our voices matter. While this benefits adults, it is also a great impact on children who grow up in a city that values the input of their parents and neighbors. Thank you to the staff that has made this a reality and for sharing all your content in Spanish.

Muy buenas tardes a la alcaldesa y los concejales. Mi nombre es Josefina Ruiz y quiero compartir con todos ustedes y el publico mi profundo sentimiento de gratitude por porfin promover interpretacion simultanea en espanol. Goleta es una hermosa ciudad para vivir y presenciar como aumentan sus esfuerzos de inclusión con interpretación en español para mí da mucho orgullo. A pesar de las dificultades que enfrentamos diariamente entre el trabajo y la familia para poder estar al tanto de los temas de la ciudad, el saber que ustedes nos tienen en cuenta y nos brinda un apoyo verdadero.
Quiero agradecer a todos los que han hecho posible este cambio, los de la secretria de la ciudad y el muchacho que habla espanol en especial. Y gracias a todos del concejo que si vemos cuando vienen y ayudan a los hispanohablantes como nosotros que nos puedamos sentir escuchados y comprendidos. Estos últimos tres años he visto muchos cambio con la ciudad en sus anuncios, videos, letreros y sus redes sociales que promueven la información en español. Nos hace sentir que importamos. Gracias a todos ustedes, de corazón. Que Dios los bendiga y les recompense por su esfuerzo y dedicación.
Good evening mayor and council members. My name is Josefina Ruiz and I wanted to share with you my deep feelings of gratitude for finally being able to provide simultaneous interpretation in Spanish at the council meetings. Goleta is a beautiful place to live in, and witnessing this increase in your efforts of inclusion with Spanish interpretation gives me a lot of pride as a Spanish speaker in Goleta. Despite the difficulties that many of us face each day between work and family and being able to stay on top of the city's issues, knowing that you take us into account and provide us with a sense of support.
I want to thank everyone who has made this a reality, the city’s secretary team and the Spanish-speaking gentleman from your staff. And thank you to everyone on the council, we do see and care when you help Spanish speakers like us, it makes us feel heard and understood. These past three years I have seen many changes with the city in its outreach efforts, videos, advertising, and social media that now include information in Spanish. It makes us feel like we matter. Thank you all, sincerely. May God bless you and reward you for your effort and dedication.

Por favor pueden incluir mi comentario hoy para su junta de hoy? Muchas gracias:
Buenas noches, quiero expresar mi sincero agradecimiento por la implementación de interpretación en español. Tiene un valor inmenso para muchas familias de nuestra comunidad, incluida la mía. Como madre con mas de un trabajo y con el costo de niñeras, tener interpretación en español significa mucho para la comunidad. Me gustaría recomendar que por favor consideren también interpretación en en línea en formato de video, no se si por youtube of facebook. Accesso alli beneficiaría enormemente a familias como la mia, que no siempre podemos asistir a las reuniones debido a obligaciones con el trabajo. Aunque no sea la interpretacion, pero con subtítulos por lo menos ayudaria muchisimo para que estemos bien informados.
Y felicidades a la senora que se retira hoy de la recepcion es muy amable y siempre nos ayudaba ella con el joven que ayuda a las personas en espanol.
Una vez más, mil gracias por todo su esfuerzo. Que Dios los bendiga.

Good evening, I want to express my thank you for the new Spanish interpretation. This is very important to many families in our community, including my own. As a mom with more than one job and the cost of babysitters, having Spanish interpretation means a lot to our community. I would like to please recommend that you also consider online interpretation in video format, I don't know if this could be done via YouTube or on Facebook. Spanish access via these options would greatly benefit families like mine who are not always able to attend meetings due to work obligations. Even if it is not the full live interpretation, an option with subtitles would help greatly in keeping us informed.
And congratulations to the receptionist on her retirement. She is very kind and she always helped us with the young man who speaks Spanish.
