Agenda Item A.1
CPMS CONSENT CALENDAR
Meeting Date: September 3, 2024
TO: Mayor and Councilmembers
SUBMITTED BY: Deborah S. Lopez, City Clerk
SUBJECT: Cancel the Regular City Council Meeting of the November 5, 2024
RECOMMENDATION:
Cancel the November 5, 2024 regular City Council Meeting.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Goleta’s Municipal Code Section 2.01.010 (Time of Regular Meetings) provides that regular meeti ngs of the City Council shall be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Regular Council meetings are held at 5:30 p.m., closed sessions may be held between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Over the past several years, the Council has cancelled or res cheduled some of its meetings in order to accommodate holidays, vacations, and conferences attended by councilmembers. On December 19, 20 23, Council adopted a revised schedule for 2024/25 which authorized the cancellation of the City Council meetings of July 2 and August 6, 2024, and January 7, 2025 to allow Council to “go dark” during summer and holiday periods. At that time, it appeared these modifications would be sufficient, and that no conflicts with any other meetings, events or conferences existed. However, a request was made to consider the cancellation of November 5, 2024 City Council meeting as this falls on Election day.
DISCUSSION:
This agenda item provides the City Council with the opportunity to cancel the November 5, 2024, City Council meeting. If the City Council approves cancellation of the Tuesday, November 5 meeting, staff would undertake the appropriate public outreach and notification steps to inform the public of the cancellation of the regular meeting . This would include posting at City Hall, the Goleta Library, the Community Center, and on the City’s website, direct email notification to subscribers, a slide on Channel 19, and notification on Nextdoor and other social media platforms.
Meeting Date: September 3, 2024
FISCAL IMPACTS:
There is no cost associated with cancelling the November 5, 2024 Council Meeting.
ALTERNATIVES:
The City Council could choose to keep the regular City Council meeting scheduled for November 5, 2024.
