Dear Members of the Santa Barbara City Council,
I am writing to express my interest in being appointed to the Santa Barbara Airport Commission.
As a long-standing active member of our community and a resident near the airport, I have witnessed firsthand the vital role a strong municipal airport plays in enhancing our region’s connectivity and economic growth.
Over the past 30 years, I have dedicated myself to community service, actively participating on several nonprofit boards that focus on local development and sustainability. This experience has not only deepened my commitment to our community but also equipped me with a nuanced understanding of the diverse needs and concerns of our residents.
Throughout my career, I have collaborated closely with the Santa Barbara City Council, Goleta City Council, and the Santa Barbara Board of Supervisors. These relationships have provided me with valuable insights into the challenges of governing the uniqueness and the diversity of the southern coast. I believe my extensive background in working with these bodies enables me to approach the commission’s responsibilities with a balanced perspective, ensuring that all voices are heard and considered in any decision-making processes.
Living so close to the airport, I appreciate both its potential and the challenges it faces. I understand that a well-functioning airport is essential not only for resident travel but also for supporting our local economy and enhancing our quality of life. My goal would be to advocate for initiatives that promote sustainable growth while addressing community concerns about noise, traffic, and environmental impact.
I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the Santa Barbara Airport Commission and help shape the future of our airport in a way that benefits both residents and visitors alike.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of serving our community in this capacity.
Sincerely,
Steve Greig
