CPMS CONSENT CALENDAR
Meeting Date: March 18, 2025
TO: Mayor and Councilmembers
SUBMITTED BY: JoAnne Plummer, Neighborhood Services Director Kelly Hoover, Community Relations Manager
PREPARED BY: Winnie Cai, Assistant City Attorney
SUBJECT: Acceptance of Donation of Funds from Yardi Systems, Inc.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve a donation from Yardi Systems of $25,000 Towards a July 4th Community Drone Show and $20,000 Towards the Goleta Valley Public Library and authorize the City Manager or designee to enter the attached Donation Agreement.
BACKGROUND:
For a number of years, the Goleta Rotary Club put on its annual fireworks show at Girsh Park to celebrate the July 4th Holiday. This public event was well attended by community members who gathered at Girsh Park to spend an evening together in anticipation of the fireworks show. Since the pandemic, the 4th of July cel ebration has not returned to the community for a variety of reasons. The community desires to see a similar event, and local businesses , including Yardi Systems (“Yardi”), have generously offered financial support to make such an event happen again . City s taff have explored such an event, and a drone show may be feasible. All the details of a drone show have yet to be finalized; however, the first step is to obtain financing for such an event.
The Goleta Valley Public Library will have to suspend operations from its location at 500 North Fairview Avenue to perform necessary and extensive ADA, safety, and building improvements. As a result, library services will need to be moved to a temporary location.
Yardi has generously offered to donate $20,000 to the C ity to support the acquisition of equipment related to the temporary move.
DISCUSSION:
The City has a Donation and Gift Policy that requires any cash donations over $10,000 to be accepted by the City Council and throu gh a written agreement. Staff recommend that the City Council accept Yardi’s donations of $25,000 towards a July 4th Drone Show and $20,000 towards the Goleta Valley Public Library and authorize the City Manager to enter into the Donation Agreement, in its substantial form, attached as Attachment 1. 1 Meeting Date: March 18, 2025
FISCAL IMPACTS:
The $25,000 donation for the 4 th of July event will go directly to help pay for the drone show itself.
The $20,000 donation earmarked for the Library will be used to purchase 12 – 14 new work stations for the Library team to use in the temporary location s, which will then be moved back to the Fairview site into the newly renovated workroom. The remaining funds will be utilized for new fixtures and furnishings at the library.
If approved, staff will include the budget appro priations related to the donations in either the Q3 Financial Review Report or other related reports.
ALTERNATIVES:
The City Council may choose not to accept the donation.
