Dear Goleta Council members,
My name is Fabián Pavón, and I am a resident of Goleta. I send this message on behalf of the members of Union Del Barrio that currently live in and grew up in Goleta.
Trump has declared a war on brown people. His administration is ignoring the constitution of the United States and indiscriminately profiling and disrupting brown histories, cultures, economies, and livelihoods. The attacks in Camarillo and Carpinteria are only the latest examples. The Trump administration continues to announce the escalation of militarized immigration enforcement throughout California and the nation. Goleta is not immune to the terror caused by the current administration. Unmarked vehicles with unidentified masked men have already kidnapped grandmothers and workers riding their bikes on their way to work from Goleta. The Goleta city council needs to show that it cares about its brown working class immigrant residents. We demand that the council respond to Trump’s institutional racism, unconstitutional practices, and legal violence by taking the following actions:
1. Allocate city resources to actively VERIFY any presence of ICE in Goleta and the surrounding communities.
2. Allocate city resources to ALERT community members of ICE presence within and around Goleta.
3. Allocate city resources to ACT as a barrier to unconstitutional abductions of community members.
We hope you all stand on the right side of history by standing with your community.
