A Proclamation of the City Council of the City of Goleta, California, Recognizing Ice In Paradise on the 10th Anniversary
A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GOLETA, CALIFORNIA, CELEBRATING THE 10th ANNIVERSARY OF
ICE IN PARADISE
WHEREAS, the creation of an ice skating rink in Goleta was first envisioned as part of the approval of the Camino Real Marketplace development plan in 1997 due to overwhelming community support for an ice rink demonstrated by a petition containing thousands of resident signatures; and
WHEREAS, the Greater Santa Barbara Ice Skating Association (GSBIA) was established in 2003 with the goal of raising enough money to construct and operate an affordable, public ice skating facility; and
WHEREAS, after more than 15 years of dreaming, planning, and fundraising, the GSBIA, supporters, and local leaders gathered on a chilly November day in 2014 to break ground on the future ice rink; and
WHEREAS, Ice in Paradise officially opened its doors on October 10, 2015, to the people of Goleta and beyond, making the dream of a community ice rink a reality; and WHEREAS, in the ten years since their opening, Ice in Paradise has played host to countless gatherings, birthdays, community events, and milestones including two L.A.
Kings High School Championship wins by the SB Royals, visits by the US Men’s and Women’s Sled Hockey Team, and a State Championship wins by the Santa Barbara Ice Hawks 16U team; and
WHEREAS, Ice in Paradise continues to grow its offering year by year, and is truly a beloved institution in the City of Goleta.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, on this 7th day of October 2025, the City Council of the City of Goleta, California, does hereby celebrate and recognize the 10th Anniversary of Ice in Paradise, and invites all community members to join in the celebration.
