BACKGROUND:

At the July 21, 2025 , Special City Council meeting, the City Council directed the City Manager to convene the Human Services Standing Committee (Committee) to allocate $100,000 in grant funding to local nonprofit organizations providing frontline assistance to individuals and families impacted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE) activities. The Council identified priority services including legal defense, mental health support, and direct services or financial assistance. The City Council also authorized the Committee to make final funding decisions and select recipients without the need for further City Council approval.

On July 24, 2025, the Committee met and selected the following three (3) nonprofits to provide services to separated families and children in crisis impacted by ICE activities:
1) 805UndocuFund: $45,000 for direct services and financial assistance; 2) Immigrant Legal Defense Center : $45,000 for emergency legal aid and defense ; and
3) LEAP (Learn Engage Advocate Partner): $10,000 for counseling and mental health support.

The grants were intended to support organizations providing immediate assistance to community members and families affected by ICE activities, with each organization using its funding to address needs within its respective area of service. 1 Meeting Date: August 18, 2026
