As the City prepares for the wet winter season I wish to ensure that council members and staff are aware of the flooding issues on the western end of Phelps Rd. Last winter this area experienced flooding due to the backup of drainage on lands owned by the City, the Goleta Union School District, and UCSB. In order to avoid a repeat of this flooding coordination will be necessary between all 3 entities. I want to make certain that this coordination takes place well before the storms arrive.
I and my neighbors had flood waters intrude upon our homes. I personally had my entire garage and part of my first floor flooded with approximately 8-10 inches of water causing approximately $25,000 worth of damage. The water rose above my sand bags and water dams. I have attached video evidence for your review.
I wish to emphasize the importance of coordination to make sure steps are taken to prevent a repeat of the flooding. Thank you.
