PARTNERSHIPS

STAFF REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: February 7, 2022
FROM: Carmen Gil, Community Engagement & Strat. Partnership Dir.

THROUGH: René L. Mendez, City Manager
SUBJECT: Appoint Jonathan Bohorquez to the Measure K Committee

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council appoint Jonathan Bohorquez to the Measure K Committee.

BACKGROUND
The Measure K Committee currently has two openings. Jonathan Bohorquez, an outstanding member of the community who has previously served on other City committees and currently works for CHISPA, submitted his application for consideration and is being put forth by the committee for Council approval. (See application attached as Exhibit A).

REVIEW AND ANALYSIS
The Measure K Committee was formed in 2014 with the passage of a one-half percent (0.5%) transactions and use tax (TUT). With its passage came the formation of a 7-member oversight committee to ensure fund transparency. For accountability purposes it is imperative that we do our best to keep a full committee at any given time. With Jonathan Bohorquez’ appointment we will still have another seat left to fill.

Duties and Commitments
The Measure K Committee is responsible for the oversight of the TUT funds, they make budget recommendations to the Council on how to prioritize spending it, as well as oversee the Community Action Grants program.
