STAFF REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: February 22, 2022
FROM: Keith Wise, Chief of Police
THROUGH: René L. Mendez, City Manager
SUBJECT: Agreement with the County of Monterey for Surplus Radios
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that your City Council approve the agreement between the City of Gonzales Police Department and the County of Monterey where the County of Monterey agrees to donate surplus property to the Police Department for public safety purposes; and authorize the City Manager to sign the agreement.
BACKGROUND
The City of Gonzales Police Department continues to work diligently to provide its Officers the equipment needed to continue to meet the City’s vision, mission, and goals. This agreement between the County of Monterey, a political subdivision of the State of California and the City of Gonzales will provide the Police Department with 15 Dual Band Harris Unity Portable Radios valued at $1,500 each free of charge to the City of Gonzales. The Harris Unity Portable Radios will be used by the Gonzales Police Department for public safety purposes. The Property is not being acquired for any other use or purpose.
REVIEW AND ANALYSIS
If the City of Gonzales does not accept this agreement, the 15 Harris Unity Portable Radios will not be accessible to us. The added capacity of the County of Monterey agreement to donate the 15 radios will be instrumental in so many ways if accepted by the City, allowing for better radio coverage and Dual Band capacity to reach more than just the current one repeater, providing stronger transmission and reception use.
As a result of accepting this agreement, the savings to the city would be approximately $22,500.
