FIRE DEPARTMENT

ACTIVITY REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: March 21, 2022
FROM: Jason Muscio, Fire Chief
THROUGH: René L. Mendez, City Manager
SUBJECT: Fire Department Activity Report

RESPONSES
There were 41 calls for service during the month of February 2022, compared to 46 calls for service during the month of February 2021. Most calls for service are EMS calls, followed by vehicle accidents.

EMS calls related to COVID-19 dropped significantly during the month, and we had no documented exposures to personnel. The Fire Department provided mutual aid to outside agencies twice during the month, both times for structure fires.

STAFFING
Staffing remains at 7 career and 3 active Volunteer Firefighters. We currently do not have any applications from qualified volunteer firefighter candidates.

TRAINING
For the month of February, our Firefighters training was in incident management and water supply operations for commercial fires. We also conducted training in fire prevention and inspection procedures.

EQUIPMENT
Engine 8112 was out of service for 12 days for a broken oil pan and cab locks. Water tender 8141 was out of service for 4 days for repairs to the turbo intake system.

PREVENTION
Annual business and residential rental inspections were conducted as time allowed. Less complex AGENDA
ITEM
8 business inspections have been assigned to the on-duty crews so our new staff can become more familiar with the businesses and the business owners in our community. Our local farm labor housing facilities were inspected in February prior to the growing season.

GRANTS
Grant opportunities continue to be investigated and pursed as they become available.
