City of Gonzales
CITY MANAGER DEPARTMENT
STAFF REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: May 16, 2022
FROM: Rene Mendez, City Manager
SUBJECT: Informational Letter: New Housing on the Horizon for Gonzales
RECOMMENDATION
Consider the Informational Letter: New Housing on the Horizon for Gonzales.
BACKGROUND
The City has been working hard to bring new housing opportunities to the community. Over the course of the last decade, there have been a few promising starts that have not resulted in any meaningful housing for the community. The last real opportunity was derailed by the recession and more recently, the COVID-19 Pandemic stalled a few projects.
REVIEW AND ANALYSIS
As we approach the middle of 2022 and slowly recover from the pandemic, staff is busily working with a few developers on several promising housing projects. As can be expected and it is traditional in Monterey County, while housing is critically needed by and for our community and in the region, there will be lot of external voices and input on how we should develop.
The letter is simply provided as information to the Council to receive direction and input whether it accurately reflects the policy priorities of your Council, and accurately conveys the appropriate message and tone.
