PARTNERSHIPS

ACTIVITY REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: June 20, 2022
FROM: Carmen Gil, Community Engagement & Strat. Partnership Dir.

THROUGH: Mark Hartunian, Assistant City Manager
SUBJECT: Community Engagement and Strategic Partnership Activity Report Gonzales Youth Council

1. The Gonzales Youth Council continued to meet regularly until the last week of school (June 6th).

They seemed to get busier at the end of the school year once they had a concrete plan in place and decided to focus on the mental health project. They organized an outreach plan. This was a follow up to the mental health survey that was conducted back in 2020. Working with their advisors and Dr.

Jennifer Lovell from CSUMB, the GYC worked to put together the 2nd irritation of the survey. They determined they would conduct outreach both in person and through an online survey. In person, they got their peers to complete the survey by tabling at the high school during the lunch hour. Virtually, they sent out the survey link and got students to complete it online. For those who participated, they were able to raffle off a few gift cards as incentives. The GYCers took pride in their work and were able to get a good response back.

3. Once the survey is complete, GYCers will work with the CSUMB team to analyze the data and compare the new results to the previous survey. The results will then be shared with the appropriate parties.

AGENDA
ITEM
8 Community Health Workers (CHWs)

1. The Community Health Care Worker (CHW) program continues to be an exceptional program for us.

The CHWs have started supporting the completion of medical applications in addition to continuing with the COVID-19 testing, food distribution, and vaccine support.

2. In June, our program will be spotlighted by the County through their VIDA social media sites and their electronic newsletter. Our program continues to lead and be on the forefront of County COVID19 resiliency and support.

3. The CHWs are now testing at the Gonzales School District Technology classroom on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2pm-5pm. They are seeing an increase in testing demand and a slight increase in positive case rates, but they continue to do their due diligence and support the community as much as they can, by providing resources and quarantine support to those that do test positive.
