SUBJECT: Community Engagement & Strategic Partnerships Activity Report Gonzales Youth Council
1. Although the Gonzales Youth Council will be out of school over the summer, some of its members, those wishing to be youth commissioners, are going to go through a summer intensive program with the City. They are going through an in-depth learning process on everything from professionalism to how to develop and execute projects, to learning how each City Department functions.
2. This program will be three weeks long and it is being run by former Youth Commissioners with support from the GYC adult allies. Five GYC members will be invited to go through it and they are excited to learn and to get more connected not only with each other, but also with Department Heads and staff.
Community Health Workers (CHWs)
1. In June, the Community Health Worker program was spotlighted by the County through their VIDA social media sites and their electronic newsletter. Our program continues to stand out and lead the County’s COVID-19 resiliency and support efforts.
2. The CHWs are now testing at Gonzales School District Technology classroom Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. They are seeing an increase in testing demand and a slight increase in positive cases, but they continue to do their due diligence and support the community as much as they can, by providing resources and quarantine support for those that do test positive.
