SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2022-52 Measure X Priority List Recommendation
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve Resolution No. 2022-52, A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Gonzales Approving Measure X’s Recommendation of Prioritizing the Gonzales Community Center Complex and the Roads and Streets Program as the Initial Projects to Fund with Funding from Measure X.
BACKGROUND
In November of 2020, the community of Gonzales passed Measure ‘X’, a half-cent sales tax to support projects that enhance the quality of life for the people of Gonzales. One long anticipated project that the community has advocated for is the Gonzales Community Center Complex. Measure ‘X’ is projected to bring in $750,000 in FY 2022-2023. These funds will allow for the continuation of work on this project and once that project is complete the next project on the list of prioritizations is the Roads and Streets Program. Prioritizing one of these programs is key to ensuring that the projects get completed in a timely manner. Last fiscal year, the Measure ‘X’ Committee prioritized the Gonzales Community Center, and they are recommending the same for this year fiscal yar.
REVIEW & ANALYSIS
The community has long advocated for the Gonzales Community Center Complex and because they worked hard to get Measure ‘X’ passed to support the project, the Measure ‘X’ Committee recommends continuing to prioritize the Gonzales Community Center Complex as the first project to be funded with the Measure ‘X’ funds. Without making this project a priority, the community will have to wait longer to see it come to fruition.
