DATE: August 15, 2022
FROM: Jason Muscio, Fire Chief
THROUGH: Carmen Gil, Interim City Manager
SUBJECT: Fire Department Activity Report

RESPONSES
There were 82 calls for service for the month of July with a year to date total of 444 calls. The majority of calls were EMS related; however we did also respond to two structure fires within the City, and three vegetation fires in the Rural Fire District. The most significant incident was a structure fire that occurred on July 4th. The fire was caused by illegal fireworks and resulted in a total loss of a single family home on 8th street.

STAFFING
Firefighter Steven Halcon was hired to fill the vacancy left by the departure of firefighter Alejandro Quiroz. Firefighter Halcon is currently assigned to A shift with Lieutenant Monares and is working his way through his probationary period. All full time positions are filled, we have several openings for volunteer firefighters but no qualified applicants at this time. There are currently two active volunteer firefighters on our roster.

TRAINING
Training was conducted at the shift level with drills focusing on wildland firefighting and scene safety.

Auto extrication drills are scheduled for the month of August.

EQUIPMENT
All apparatus remains in service without the need for significant repairs. A heavy duty washing machine extractor was purchased and installed in the firehouse for cleaning our firefighting bunker gear. A flammable liquid storage cabinet was also purchased and installed for the safe storage of our fuel and oil.
