FIRE DEPARTMENT

ACTIVITY REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: September 19, 2022
FROM: Jason Muscio, Fire Chief
THROUGH: Carmen Gil, Interim City Manager
SUBJECT: Fire Department Activity Report

RESPONSES
There were 67 calls for service during the month of August including three vehicle accidents with serious injuries, one vehicle fire, and two calls for mutual aid to our neighboring departments. Routine medical emergencies made up the majority of the calls for service. There were two instances of simultaneous calls in August that required assistance from outside agencies.

STAFFING
The Department is fully staffed with seven full time personnel. There are currently three active Volunteer Firefighters on the roster. We currently have no qualified Volunteer Firefighter applicants in process.

TRAINING
Training was conducted at the shift level with drills focusing on firefighter survival and rescue of downed firefighters. There was a separate firefighter rescue drill that was held in cooperation with our automatic aid partners from the CTF Fire Department.

EQUIPMENT
All apparatus remains in service without the need of significant repairs. The City Mechanic was able to repair an air leak on Engine 8112 and provide a complete service. The annual service and testing of our breathing air compressor was performed by Bauer Compressors. The technician stated the compressor unit is reaching the end of its service life as it was built in 2000, and this may be the last year the compressor can be certified. Staff has begun researching options for a replacement system.
