DATE: November 7, 2022
FROM: Patrick Dobbins, Acting City Manager

SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2022-77 Quote with Alvarez Tech Group to Replace Servers at City Hall and Police Station

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council Adopt Resolution No. 2022-77, A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Gonzales Authorizing Execution of a Quote from Alvarez Technology Group to Replace the Computer Servers for City Hall and Police Station in the Not-to-Exceed $135,000, which includes a contingency budget of $12,068; and amend the FY 2022-2023 City Budget per the budget impact section of the staff report.

BACKGROUND

The City’s computer network is comprised of computers, internet cabling, switches, and a server with the ability to access the internet. The server is the central repository, and the local area network connects the individual computers to resources like internet access, disk space, printer access and to other computers in the network.

The City’s network servers for City Hall and the administrative functions for the Police Station were installed in 2016 and according to Alvarez Technology Group will no longer receive important updates from Microsoft and therefore can’t be supported by Alvarez Technology Group.

The computer hardware has been pieced together for many years and may begin to require additional support. That is why Alvarez Technology Group recommends upgrading the network hardware, cleaning up the server room to identify what is there, and upgrading the servers. The benefits of this project include being able to continue receiving very important Microsoft patches that will help keep the city computer network safe and secure.
