ACTIVITY REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: February 21, 2023
FROM: Jason Muscio, Fire Chief
THROUGH: Trevin Barber, City Manager
SUBJECT: Fire Department Activity Report
RESPONSES
There were 60 calls for service during the month of January. The majority of calls were medical emergencies; however, there were two serious vehicle accidents, one of which resulted in a fatality, and the other with significant injuries. There were no incidents directly related to the winter storms within the City limits, but there were several storm related service calls in the Rural Fire District. The Fire Chief coordinated response with Monterey County OES and other agencies for hazard mitigation in the Rural Fire District, and with Gonzales Public Works for mitigation within the City limits.
STAFFING
Staffing stands at seven full time personnel and three active Volunteer Firefighters. The Fire Chief received an application for Volunteer Firefighter but the individual is not currently qualified. The applicant was advised to apply after completing additional training.
TRAINING
Training for the month of January consisted of annual refresher training in required subjects such as EMS legal policies, sudden infant death syndrome, and mass casualty incidents.
EQUIPMENT
All apparatus remains in service without the need of significant repair. The roof of the Fire Station office area was temporarily sealed to stop water leaks around the skylights. A full roof repair is planned for later in the spring.
