FIRE DEPARTMENT

ACTIVITY REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: March 20, 2023
FROM: Jason Muscio, Fire Chief
THROUGH: Trevin W. Barber, City Manager
SUBJECT: Fire Department Activity Report

RESPONSES
There were 54 calls for service during the month of February, and 114 calls total year to date. EMS calls and vehicle accidents make up the majority of call volume. There was a working structure fire at 442 South Alta that we were fortunately able to contain to one bedroom without any mutual aid assistance.

We continue to receive multiple calls for service from some of the same individuals with chronic health conditions, and we have been in contact with other agencies in an attempt to get these patients long term care.

STAFFING
Staffing remains at seven career personnel including the Chief, and three active Volunteer Firefighters.

One of our career Lieutenants has indicated he will be leaving the Department sometime in April for another agency. One of our active Volunteer Firefighters is currently in the hiring process for a full time position with the Salinas Fire Department.

TRAINING
Training for the month of February focused on EMS skills updates and re-certifications. Outside instructors were brought in to provide the training so our personnel could remain compliant with county EMS protocols.

EQUIPMENT
All apparatus remains in service without need for significant repairs. We continue to have an intermittent issue with the charging system on Patrol 8151, the City Mechanic is working on resolving the problem.
