PROCLAMATION NO. 2023-01
WHEREAS, in support of the American Legion Auxiliary, Gonzales Unit 81 is Declaring May 2023 as “Poppy Month;” and
WHEREAS, the Poppy became a symbol of sacrifice of lives in war, and represented the hope that none had died in vain; and;
WHEREAS, Poppy Month has become a tradition in almost every American Community; and
WHEREAS, the distribution of the bright red flower is one of the oldest and most widely recognized programs of the American Legion Auxiliary; and WHEREAS, the memorial Poppy is made by hospitalized veterans, then distributed to the public near Memorial Day, and all donations received are used only to benefit America’s veterans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Mayor Jose L. Rios, on behalf of the City of Gonzales City Council, hereby proclaims, honors, and supports May 2023 as “Poppy Month.”
