FIRE DEPARTMENT

ACTIVITY REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: June 20, 2023
FROM: Jason Muscio, Fire Chief
THROUGH: Carmen Gil, Acting City Manager
SUBJECT: Fire Department Activity Report

RESPONSES
There were 71 calls for service during the month of May, including two vehicle fires and two vegetation fires. The majority of calls were EMS incidents, followed by vehicle accidents. We provided mutual aid to our neighboring departments twice during the month.

STAFFING
Firefighter Efren Rizo was hired to fill one of the existing Firefighter vacancies, bringing the total number of career staff up to six (including the Chief), with one more Firefighter vacancy to fill. The selection process for the final Firefighter position will begin in June. There are two active Volunteer Firefighters on our roster.

TRAINING
All shifts worked with the new Firefighter on remedial training and familiarization with our equipment.

Basic firefighter skills such as ladders and deploying hose lines were practiced, as well as training in the use of our radios and standard operating guidelines. Crews are also beginning to prepare for the upcoming fire season.

EQUIPMENT
All apparatus remains in service. Engine 8112 was briefly taken out of service for repairs to the ladder rack, and patrol 8151 was out of service for one week with a battery charging issue. Engine 8112 will require a new set of front tires which will be purchased in June.
