BACKGROUND
To remove heavy vehicle traffic on Fifth Street between US101 and Alta Street the City Council adopted Ordinance 2019-113 that designated the following streets as authorized truck routes:
• All of Alta Street; and
• That portion of Gonzales River Road situated in the city limits Removing trucks from Fifth Street should make the area safer and would create less traffic. The large trucks driving to and from US101 to businesses in the Industrial Park are not familiar with local vehicular and pedestrian movements and should use North Alta or South Alta to improve safety and convenience of both the trucks and the community.
Staff had a consultant prepare the necessary plans and specifications to install the required signs. As some of the signs will be installed on US101, a Caltrans Encroachment was obtained.
