March was a busy month for staff as we continued to wind down all the aspects needed for the start of construction of the long-awaited Community Center. After receiving the complete set of construction documents, the team reviewed them and is finalizing everything on the funding part for Phase I. We are busy working with the USDA on a daily basis to get everything in order to complete the loan, and all the requirements so that construction can continue as scheduled.  We continue to seek donations for Phase II of the center. If you are interested in making a donation or for more information, please visit the Community Foundation’s website (www.cfmco.org) and type in Gonzales Community Center in the search box. Donations made through their website are secure and will come directly to our Community Center fund.

Economic Development and Revenue Generation
 In April, the Planning Commission will hear a proposal to amend our local sign ordinance that may give way to a digital billboard for the community. This opportunity can potentially bring in additional non-restricted revenue as well as serve as an important communication tool for the community. For more information, see the Planning Commission Agenda for the meeting set for 04-08-24.
