PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the
City Council of the City of Gonzales
will hold a Public Hearing on Monday,
May 20, 2024 at 6:00pm in the City
Council Chambers, 117 Fourth Street,
Gonzales, California to consider
adoption of:
ORDINANCE NO. 2024-144
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GONZALES
AMENDING CHAPTER 5.40
“FIREWORKS” OF TITLE 5-PUBLIC
HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE
GONZALES CITY CODE
The City Council will be considering
the adoption of Ordinance No. 2024-
144, which will amend provisions
of Chapter 5.40 “Fireworks” of
Title 5- Public Health and Safety of
the Gonzales City Code. The new
provisions clarify the restrictions on
the use of fireworks in the City, making
it unlawful for any person, corporation
or entity to possess, store, offer for
sale, sell at retail or wholesale, use
or discharge illegal fireworks, or to
permit the use of property under a
person’s or entity’s control for illegal
fireworks use; establish a new 10:30
pm curfew for the use of legal (safeand-sane) fireworks in the City on July 4; and establish the City’s right to
collect response and administrative
costs of the police, fire and other
emergency service providers incurred
in responding to incidents involving
the possession, storage or discharge
of illegal fireworks, all as defined in the
Code. New sections also declare the
illegal use of fireworks in the City to be
a nuisance and clarify the penalties for
the use of illegal fireworks.
A copy of the full text of the proposed
ordinance has been available in the
office of the City Clerk since May 2,
2024. Ordinance No. 2024-144 was
introduced and read by title only at a
regular meeting of the City Council on
May 6, 2024.

5:00pm, Monday through Friday
(City Hall is closed from 12:30pm to
1:30pm). Interested parties are invited
