RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council consider approval of Proclamation No. 2024-06 Proclaiming September as the City of Gonzales’ Community Beautification Month.
BACKGROUND
In efforts to create more vibrant communities that promote wellbeing, ownership and pride, Cities across the State and Country have taken up Community Beautification initiatives as they have proven to strengthen civic participation and community unity.
The City Council has heard residents’ complaints of blight, loose animals and even animal waste left on the sidewalks, and recognizes that these issues are community issues that require attention and community initiative. Declaring a “Community Beautification Month” helps to promote public participation in such efforts and allows the City Council and staff, to recognize this as a serious matter to where action will be taken and efforts to make the community cleaner will be deployed.
REVIEW & ANALYSIS
Recognizing September as Gonzales’ Community Beautification Month will allow staff to encourage and support community clean-up projects, planting and gardening days, and art and cultural enrichment activities – all in an effort to make Gonzales a great place to live, work, and play.
