The day was In October is always a fun month! It kicks off back-to-back activities for the City’s Recreation Department. We started off the month with a Walk-to-School Day with our friends from the County Health Department, our School Resource Officer, and our friend Chase. We had a great turn out and the kiddos had an amazing time walking to school together.
From October 16th to the 18th, our City Manager attended the League of California Cities Conference. She got to learn about the Cities’ efforts across the State and the challenges that they are also facing, as well as new legislation that is coming down that may impact us.

We are still working on securing funding for Phase II of the project. If you are interested in making a donation to the Center, please visit the Community Foundation for Monterey County and in the search bar insert Gonzales Community Center Capital Campaign.

Economic Development and Revenue Generation
• An exciting opportunity is coming to the community. At their October 7th meeting, the Gonzales City Council approved a lease with Legacy Sings for a digital billboard to be constructed on a city-owned parcel adjacent to Highway 101. The billboard will generate some much-needed revenue for the City as well as provide a great communications tool. The City will be able to utilize the billboard for certain City civic promotions and public safety announcements. Businesses will be able to purchase advertising space and Gonzales-based businesses will receive a 25% discount. The signs’ characteristics will fit in nicely with the City’s look and feel.
