PUBLIC WORKS / CITY ENGINEER DEPARTMENT

STAFF REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: May 19, 2025
FROM: Patrick Dobbins, Public Works Director/City Engineer THROUGH: Carmen Gil, City Manager
SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2025-23 Trash Pump Purchase for the Wastewater Treatment Plant

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council Adopt Resolution No. 2025-23, A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Gonzales Approving the Purchase of a Trailer Mounted Trash Pump for the Wastewater Treatment Plant in the amount of $95,000.

BACKGROUND

A trash pump is used to move water between the three disposal ponds at the wastewater treatment plant.

This is done to fill and empty disposal ponds to maximize the percolation of treated wastewater and maintenance of the ponds.

REVIEW & ANALYSIS
The existing pump is 25 years old and no longer able to pump the amount of wastewater needed. It also has a small gas tank which allows it to run for only six hours, which limits it functionally. Since last November the City has rented a pump from Rain for Rent at a monthly cost of $5,000.

AGENDA
ITEM
19 Staff obtained the following three quotes for a new pump.:

Name Price Lead Time
PAC Machine Company $95,000 6 weeks
Muniquip (Grundfos) $110,000 18 weeks
Muniquip (Gorman Rupp) $114,400 18 weeks
The pump from PAC Machine Company is the preferred pump for the following reasons:
• Lowest cost
• It’s easier to obtain parts for and get serviced
• Shorter lead time that will reduce the need to rent a pump Therefore, staff recommend that the City Council approve the purchase of a trailer-mounted pump from PAC Machine Company, in the amount of $95,000.
