FROM: Carmen Gil, City Manager
THROUGH: Carmen Gil, City Manager
SUBJECT: Revised Job Description for Development Services Technician/Administrative Analyst
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the revised Job Description for the Development Services Technician/Administrative Analyst Position.
BACKGROUND
The Community Development Technician/Administrative Analyst Position has been vacant since midOctober of 2024. As the City has not yet been successful in two rounds of recruitments for the position, staff has looked more closely into the necessary duties and skills of the position and whether the Job Description was in need of updating.
REVIEW AND ANALYSIS
In closer review of the Job Description for the Community Development Technician/Administrative Analyst Position, staff found that the description was overly wordy and included some duties and skill set requirements that weren’t necessary and may have served as a deterrent to qualified candidates. Staff has attached the existing job description and a revised description for City Council review and concurrence.
Qualitatively, staff wanted to convey that supervision, guidance and on-the job learning should be expected and that the City is ready to accept people willing to learn on-the job. While we still expect proficiencies in writing, math, customer service and working well in a “team” environment, we toned down the appearance that candidates had to “know-it-all.” AGENDA
