PUBLIC WORKS / CITY ENGINEER DEPARTMENT

STAFF REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: July 21, 2025
FROM: Patrick Dobbins, Public Works Director/City Engineer THROUGH: Carmen Gil, City Manager
SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2025-49 - Purchase Pump for WWTP RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends that the City Council Adopt Resolution 2025-49, A resolution of the City Council of the City of Gonzales Approving the Purchase of Two Trailer Mounted Trash Pumps for the Wastewater Treatment Plant in the amount of $100,527 from Thompson Pump through the Sourcewell Cooperative Purchasing Program.

BACKGROUND:

Trash pumps are used to move wastewater between treatment ponds and disposal beds at the wastewater treatment plant. This is done to fill and empty disposal ponds to maximize percolation of treated wastewater and maintenance of the ponds.

REVIEW &ANALYSIS:

The existing trash pump is 25 years old and is no longer able to pump the amount of wastewater needed.

It has a small gas tank that limits the pump to run for more than six hours. For the last 9 months, the City has rented pumps from Rain for Rent at a monthly cost of $5,000.

The City and Thompson Pump are members of Sourcewell, a cooperative sourcing solution for public agencies that provide expedited quotes and discounts on a variety of products and types of equipment.

Staff obtained the attached quote for two pumps from Thompson Pump for $100,527. The pumps have a delivery timeframe of 14-16 weeks.

AGENDA
ITEM
14 Purchasing the pumps from Thompson Pump though the Sourcewell cooperative purchasing program is preferred for the following reasons:
