PUBLIC WORKS / CITY ENGINEER DEPARTMENT

STAFF REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: September 15, 2025
FROM: Patrick Dobbins, Public Works Director/City Engineer THROUGH: Carmen Gil, City Manager
SUBJECT: Resolution No. 2025-69 Award Fifth Street Truck Ban Contract

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council consider and adopt Resolution No. 2025-69, A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Gonzales awarding the Fifth Street Truck Ban Project to Chrisp Company and authorizing the City Manager to Execute a Contract with Chrisp Company in the amount of $130,000 which includes a $8,564 contingency for unforeseen field conditions.

BACKGROUND
To remove long haul trucks and other large vehicles along Fifth Street between US101 and Alta Street, the City Council adopted Ordinance 2019-113 that designated the following streets as authorized truck routes:
• Alta Street; and
• The portion of Gonzales River Road situated in the City limits.

Removing long-haul trucks and other large vehicles from Fifth Street between US101 and Alta Street should make the street safer for pedestrians including children walking to/from school. The long-haul trucks driving to businesses in the Industrial Park are not familiar with local vehicle and pedestrian movements and should use the freeway interchanges at North Alta and Gloria Road to improve safety for the community.
