FIRE DEPARTMENT

ACTIVITY REPORT
TO: Honorable Mayor Rios and City Council
DATE: November 17, 2025
FROM: Jason Muscio, Fire Chief
THROUGH: Carmen Gil, City Manager
SUBJECT: Fire Department Activity Report

RESPONSES
There were 64 calls for service during the month of October, bringing the total number of calls for year 2025 to 729. The breakdown of calls is as follows; 1 structure fire (mutual aid), 1 trash fire, 50 EMS calls, 1 hazardous materials call, 7 cancelled in route, and 1 false alarm. We provided mutual aid to our partners twice during the month, and received mutual aid 3 times due to simultaneous calls for service.

STAFFING
New Firefighter Matthew De La Torre started on October 7th, filling the vacant Firefighter position and bringing our Department up to full staffing levels. Three Volunteer Firefighter applications were submitted and the candidates were interviewed by the Chief. However, all three accepted full-time positions with CAL FIRE so none of the applicates continued with the hiring process.

TRAINING
All training for the month consisted of basic evolutions in ladders, attack line deployment, auto extrication, and hand tool skills with our new Firefighters. The Captains all trained on pumping operations of the new fire engine. The entire Department will undergo 8 hours of refresher training in hazardous materials during the month of November.

EQUIPMENT
The new engine 8111 has been placed in service and is currently in use. Captain David Vasquez took the lead in getting the new engine outfitted and ready to respond. We are still waiting for the arrival of some tool brackets to better secure our extrication tools, but we have found a temporary solution. The old AGENDA
ITEM
10 engine 8111 will be re-numbered to engine 8112 and placed in reserve status. All other apparatus remains in service. Annual flow testing of our self-contained breathing apparatus was conducted by our vendor L.N Curtis.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
The Fire Chief gave a presentation to 13 High School Seniors about potential careers in the Fire/EMS service. The presentation took place at the Gonzales High School Library. C shift made a visit to Ms.

Castro’s class at Gonzales High School for some show and tell time with her students. A local daycare provider brought her children over to the Firehouse for a tour, but it was interrupted by an emergency call and we will be re-scheduling soon.
