BACKGROUND

A slurry seal is a preventive roadway maintenance treatment that involves the application of a mixture of water, asphalt emulsion, aggregate (very small, crushed rock), and additives to an existing pavement surface. Applying a slurry seal protects streets from water penetration, provides a new surface with improved skid-resistance, and extends the life of the pavement.

The streets that received the slurry seal under this contract were in the Canyon Creek subdivision, the Industrial Businesses Park and the block of Fourth Street in front of City Hall.

City staff prepared the construction documents (plans, technical specifications, and cost estimate) for this contract. The scope of work consisted of surface preparation, crack seal, traffic control, application of the slurry seal, and replacement of traffic striping and markings.
