A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GONZALES
RECOGNIZING PATRICK MATHEWS, GENERAL MANAGER AND CHIEF
ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER FOR THE SALINAS VALLEY SOLID WASTE AUTHORITY,
FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE SALINAS VALLEY AND THE RESIDENTS OF GONZALES WHEREAS, Patrick Mathews began his tenure with the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority (Authority) in 2008 after a long and distinguished career in local government; and WHEREAS, during Mr. Mathews’ tenure, he was instrumental in leading the agency through a period of significant transformation and fiscal stability; and WHEREAS, under his leadership, the Authority eliminated longstanding budget deficits through prudent financial and operational practices; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mathews led the Authority during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, maintain uninterrupted operations without labor disruptions or fiscal setbacks; and WHEREAS, Mr. Mathews led the advancement of multiple programs and projects towards the goal of 75% diversion from landfills, while overseeing the takeover of the Johnson Canyon Landfill and Jolon Road Transfer Station; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mathews guided the creation of the Education Center at Johnson Canyon Landfill, expanding the organization’s community outreach and environmental education efforts; and WHEREAS, his tenacity and drive to consistently pursue innovative technologies to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability, have enhanced the organization and its service to the Salinas Valley; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mathews’ influence extends beyond the Salinas Valley as he is an active member of the Solid Waste Association of Northern America, Gold Rush Chapter; the Special District Manager Group; the California Bioenergy Council, and a graduate of the Leadership Salinas Valley Program.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Gonzales takes great pride and pleasure in drawing special attention to the accomplishments of Mr. Patrick Mathews and through this resolution, does hereby honor, commend and recognize Mr. Mathews for his exemplary service to the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority and the residents of Gonzales, and wishes him well as he goes on to enjoy his retirement.
