Subject: Public comment - Mill St parking lot
[You don't oŌen get email from Learn why this is important at hƩps://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdenƟficaƟon ]
Hi there,
I’m wriƟng to express my concerns about the new Mill St parking lot which is directly across the street from my house.
During iniƟal planning I was supporƟve of this project - the plans were thoughƞully designed, and I know that there is a need for more parking, both for downtown businesses and for local residents. My house and several of my neighbors’ houses don’t have driveways, so parking can be a challenge with street parking and limited spots. (Since moving here 6 years ago, my car has been totaled in an overnight hit and run, and my husband’s car was towed from a legal street parking spot while we were on our honeymoon. Both major bummers!) Having residenƟal permit spots in this lot, as discussed in early planning meeƟngs, would be a great benefit to both residents and businesses.
However, as the parking lot has taken shape it looks less and less like the plans that were approved with the input of myself and my neighbors. The plans indicated powder coated tubular railing, but what has been installed is unsightly chain link fencing. And aŌer we gave input at a meeƟng about the importance of overnight residenƟal parking, the city was planning to create a residenƟal parking plan for the lot - now there is no overnight parking allowed in this lot, which is unhelpful for those of us that live here.
It is frustraƟng to have followed the planning process, only to see something else being built. I urge the city to reassess the fencing for this parking lot, to maintain the historic charm of the neighborhood. I also ask that a residenƟal parking program be implemented as soon as possible to alleviate some of the issues we downtown residents have with parking.
Respecƞully,
Zoe ToffaleƟ
