Andrew Sandoval, LULAC, stated that he believed that the demographer could supply a city-wide map with an overlay of registered voters. He stated that he didn’t recommend that Council include future growth into consideration in drawing the district maps. He stated he believed if the Council removed the power to elect its Mayor by appointing the Mayor, it would delude the voting power of the protected class in Greenfield. He stated that he believed that the majority of the Council wanted to keep the Mayor elected at large and not remove that power from the voters.
Stephanie Garcia stated that she agreed with Councilmember Martinez that there was a lack of public participation or knowledge. She stated that she didn’t know enough about this to be for or against it; however, currently as a voter she was able to vote for 2 Councilmembers and having that taken away, she was not okay with that. She stated that she disagreed with Mr. Sandoval about the rotating Mayor because it gave everyone a turn to be the Mayor and that would be good.
Beatriz Diaz’s email was read into the record by the City Clerk.
Mayor Pro-tem Untalon closed the public hearing at 8:36 p.m.
