She noted that, pursuant to the City's Municipal Code, only those two applicants are eligible for consideration at this time.

Vice Mayor Johnson expressed interest in having City staff explore potential amendments to the Municipal Code to expand eligibility. Specifically, he suggested allowing up to two commissioners to reside within one-half mile of the city limits, while maintaining a requirement that at least three commissioners reside within the City. He noted that this change could help broaden the pool of qualified applicants.

Maria Espino, Planning Commission Chair, addressed the Council in support of allowing additional members from outside city limits. She also encouraged the Council to actively recruit and engage City residents who may be interested in serving on the Planning Commission.
